Information about graduating from HKU

Unenrol after graduation

From the moment you receive the email that you are proposed to the next meeting of the Board of Examiners, you can unenrol in Studielink.

If HKU receives your request for termination of enrolment within one month after graduation, you can be unenrolled as of the first day of the month subsequent to the date on your certificate. If HKU receives your request at a later date, your registration will end on the first day of the month following your request for unenrolment.

Retrospective unenrolment?

Only when you send a request for termination of enrolment within one month after graduation, you can be unenrolled as of the first of the month following the date on your diploma. However, it is not possible to choose a date in the past in Studielink. If retrospective unenrolment is possible, you will be contacted by HKU.

Staying enrolled

In this case you don't send a request for termination of enrolment in Studielink and your enrolment ends as of 1 September. You will continue paying tuition fee and are not eligible for reimbursement.

This option is particularly beneficial to students who receive Dutch student financing. You will receive financing until the end of the academic year. Don't forget to end your student financing and student travel card yourself as of 1 September.

Example

The date on your certificate is February 16. If you apply for termination of enrolment within one month after this date then the date of your unenrolment is March 1.

You can also choose to remain enrolled until August 31. In that case you don't need to undertake any action.

Important note

If you end your studies and you plan to leave The Netherlands, please remember to deregister from the Basis Registratie Persoonsgegevens (BRP) at the city hall of the city where you live. If applicable, you should also return your residence card for study to the nearest IND front desk.
